Video of Song
Let's all go on an urban safari
we might see some illegal migrants
Oiy look there's a chav
that means council housed and violent
He's got a hoodie on give him a hug
on second thoughts don't you don't wanna get mugged
Oh shit too late that was kinda dumb
whose idea was that...stupid...
He's got some front, ain't we all
be the joker, play the fool
What's politics, ain't it all
smoke and mirrors, April fools
All year round, all in all
just another brick in the wall
Get away with murder in the schools
use four letter swear words coz we're cool
We're all drinkers, drug takers
every single one of us buns the herb
Keep on believing what you read in the papers
council estate kids, scum of the earth
Think you know how life on a council estate is
from everything you've ever read about it or heard
Well it's all true, so stay where you're safest
there's no need to step foot out the 'burbs
Truth is here, we're all disturbed
we cheat and lie its so absurd
Feed the fear that's what we've learned
Fuel the fire
Let it burn.
CHORUS
Oiy! I said Oiy!
What you looking at you little rich boy!
We're poor 'round here, run home and lock your door
don't come 'round here no more, you could get robbed for
Real (yeah) you know my manors ill
My manors ill
For real
Yeah you know my manors ill, my manors ill!
VERSE 2
You could get lost in this concrete jungle
new builds keep springing up outta nowhere
Take the wrong turn down a one way junction
find yourself in the hood nobody goes there
We got an Eco-friendly government
they preserve our natural habitat
Built an entire Olympic village
around where we live without pulling down any flats
Give us free money and we don't pay any tax
NHS healthcare, yes please many thanks
People get stabbed round here there's many shanks
nice knowing someone's got our backs when we get attacked
Don't bloody give me that
I'll lose my temper
Who closed down the community centre?
I killed time there used to be a member
what will I do now 'til September?
Schools out, rules out, get your bloody tools out
London's burning, I predict a riot
Fall in fall out
who knows what it's all about
What did that chief say? Something bout the kaisers
Kids on the street no they never miss a beat
never miss a cheap thrill when it comes their way
Let's go looting
no not Luton
the high street's closer cover your face
And if we see any rich kids on the way we'll make 'em wish they stayed inside
there's a charge for congestion, everybody's gotta pay
do what Boris does... rob them blind
CHROUS
Oi! I said Oi!
What you looking at you little rich boy?
We're poor 'round here, run home and lock your door!
Don't come 'round here no more, you could get robbed for
real (yeah) because my manors ill
My manors ill
For real
Yeah you know my manors ill, my manors ill!
MIDDLE 8
Oi (Oi) Oi (Oi)
We've had it with you politicians
Oi (Oi) Oi (Oi)
you bloody rich kids never listen
Oi (Oi) Oi (Oi)
There's no such thing as broken Britain
we're just bloody broke in Britain
What needs fixing is the system
not shop windows down in Brixton
Riots on the television
you can't put us all in prison
CHORUS
Oi! I said Oi!
What you looking at you little rich boy?
We're poor round here, run home and lock your door!
Don't come round here no more, you could get robbed for
real (yeah) because my manors ill
My manors ill
For real
Yeah you know my manors ill , my manors ill!
Immediately we see how the youth are represented though the video. We see a young hooded boy pushing an old woman in her wheelchair which would typically be unexpected.

Ill Manors
Ill Manors
Youth culture on a whole in this film is quite sinister, yet appears to be the norm for them. Attitudes and ideas can be controlled by the environment people live in. The characters lived in Essex and gang culture is omnipresent. Hopeless unemployment, objectifying women and repetitive murder is around each corner.A lot of the gangs are where they are now because of their early life. Broken homes, drug addicted parents and unreliable adults could be seen as the main drive for where certain individual youths are now. Love and affection has not been inputted into the characters at an early age, no attention or warmth, therefore as a result of this, crime is something in their daily lives. We see teenagers girl showing a provocative nature, with their short school skirts open shirts and long socks which they think is acceptable however this is what draws the men in, young vulnerable girls filled with naivety brought up in the wrong way. Prostitution, drugs and death are the main cycle throughout the film and we know the only sort of freedom or escapism is to leave, get away from the place and start a new without all the negatives that have built up over the years.
Fighting with teenage girls is shown quite frequently which would normally be the males, which show it's not only the males that are involved in this violent nature it's females too. As a collective identity, we could say it has certain aspects of racism, typically we see a lot of black hooded youths and when a white individual wants to join he is discriminated and beat up because of the colour of his skin and his clothes. You can almost say, when you enter the darker side of society you get a new everything. A new identity is given to you, we see they youths go shopping for new clothes which are all black, It's almost as if they taken on a new persona when accepted in the gang. When i say accepted, it;s because one of the boys had to beat up not only his friend, but a stranger too just to be part of the group. We knew he was out of his comfort zone primarily because of his hesitant emotional nature. Later we see he accidentally murders a teen girl which happend to be one of the most dangerous mans younger sister. It results in him dying at the age of 14/15, we could say it was best for him to die when he did to reduce the risk of him growing up in such a unconventional style, however this would not of happened is he wasn't part of a gang. His moulded identity killed him.
The music throughout foreshadows the individuals feelings and is coherent to their attitudes towards life. The rapping nature of the songs supports this gang culture i guess and a lot of rap is just an in depth song about ones feelings or experiences. The films contains a lot of swearing which would be completely unacceptable in todays society, yet to them, it was simply their vocabulary. We can assume they were uneducated and crime was the only thing they knew, the only way they could get by and they only way they could survive which again 4 times out of 5 results in death. Trouble and manic experiences was the norm for the people in the film and what makes it more realistic, is that all of the actors where actually taken from an environment which is some what a like the one in the film so a lot of emotions and acting was in fact real, because we can assume some of the actors actually had to live that lifestyle.

Headline News Report
Both of the news broadcasts present are from different news paper companies yet both consist of the same image and headline! This reinforces to the world that teenagers are the main cause of the rioting. The image shows this typical 'hooded youth' individual so sow the world and todays youth are responsible for the distraction of the town. The fire we see behind him was mostly likely not set alite by him yet the media have taken an the picture of him walking past and captured it purposely to put direct blame on the male in the frame.
The repetition of the lexis 'Anarchy' suggests: chaos, negativity and violence which again is used to reinforce the seriousness and the rioting and attacking. With headings needing to be short and snappy, they need to specifically choose words that are appropriate and short enough so the audience know what they mean and conjure up connotations in the audiences head. Audiences are primarily adults and people who buy newspapers; in which younger people would typically not be seen buying newspapers. More intellectual people who would as well as the media, blame the 'wasted youth'.

London Riots
London riots broadcast news
For each news bulletin discuss how youths are represented using the following prompts:
- Who do the reporters interview during the broadcast?
- What images are used in the news broadcast? What do they suggest about the representation of young people in the riots?
- Is the broadcast biased in any way?
- Are youths given a fair voice within the broadcast?
Video
A video from the London bombings found on youtube includes a reporter interviewing some local 'hooded' males. Already before watching the video we see the hooded individuals in a group which already has connotations of: gangs, violence and trouble, primarily because they are in a group, however if we seen a group of middle aged people together we wouldn't have the same views as we do with young people. I also think the media tries to portray it as just males from the reporters quote 'lads' which shows the medias as being sexist. Another stereotype we see is that they are all wearing hoods which again show connotations of 'wasted youth' however this perception is extremely inaccurate as the clothes people choose to wear should not automatically be follow by negative imagery.
Watching the video, we see images of burnt shops and the remains of what used to be before the riots. Then immediately after the camera switches to the hooded young males which could be symbolic of the media blaming the youth for the rioting. To support this, we hear the reporter quote 'these lads, dripping in designer status symbols' - the relevance of this statement seems futile and irrelevant because people attitudes do not depend on the clothes people wear, the media are trying to force feed us that young people are to blame and we can see this because of their clothing. Also the added comment of 'designer' in my opinion suggests that they have stolen the items they are wearing, which again force feeds us as an audience that they are to blame when in fact its a result of the police that has caused a lot of the riots.
Although the males interviewed seem rather unfazed by the riots maybe because violence and binary opposites are always present, they are still able to understand and justify why what went on has happened and in all fairness they do sound right. One of the males quoted 'i think it was the best protest that has happened' and this is because the government and media have looked into it more and now feel threatened by what is on todays streets. A woman that was interviewed said that the people who have taken part in the riots dont feel like they fit into a community, which i completely agree with. The media constantly show the world a negative destructive persona of young people resulting in them not feeling communal anywhere and rioting is the only way to make people listen. The media will always be one of the strongest most powerful hegemonies in history therefore whatever they says is right when in fact, they show a false veneer and glamourise the truth so we categorize todays youth as being destructive and the cause of how society is.
The fact the media distances youths today i think encourages them to get their message across in ways politically incorrect. The media steers young people in the wrong direction because of their false perceptions and publicising how they are always in the wrong and that they are a threat to society. The interview has been set up, so the questions asked in my opinion are quite closed, a reporter asked 'do you think anything that happened on saturday night was justifiable?' of coure the young males are going to say yes and thats what the media want, unexpectedly the males are falling into what i would call a media trap because they have been asked a question which is going to show them in a negative light as the media know that the answer they will get back is going to support the riots.
From other videos we see evidence that it's not only the youth that riot, it's varied in terms of age however the media only show it as being the young people involved. I think that if the audience seen images of all ages taking part in the riots, it would show people that young people are not to be blamed for what has gone on. To conclude this, the media has purposely put blame on younger children because it's more believable however people of all ages and cultures are to blame.
