Ill Manors

Ill Manors
Youth culture on a whole in this film is quite sinister, yet appears to be the norm for them. Attitudes and ideas can be controlled by the environment people live in. The characters lived in Essex and gang culture is omnipresent. Hopeless unemployment, objectifying women and repetitive murder is around each corner.

A lot of the gangs are where they are now because of their early life. Broken homes, drug addicted parents and unreliable adults could be seen as the main drive for where certain individual youths are now. Love and affection has not been inputted into the characters at an early age, no attention or warmth, therefore as a result of this, crime is something in their daily lives. We see teenagers girl showing a provocative nature, with their short school skirts open shirts and long socks which they think is acceptable however this is what draws the men in, young vulnerable girls filled with naivety brought up in the wrong way. Prostitution, drugs and death are the main cycle throughout the film and we know the only sort of freedom or escapism is to leave, get away from the place and start a new without all the negatives that have built up over the years.

Fighting with teenage girls is shown quite frequently which would normally be the males, which show it's not only the males that are involved in this violent nature it's females too. As a collective identity, we could say it has certain aspects of racism, typically we see a lot of black hooded youths and when a white individual wants to join he is discriminated and beat up because of the colour of his skin and his clothes. You can almost say, when you enter the darker side of society you get a new everything. A new identity is given to you, we see they youths go shopping for new clothes which are all black, It's almost as if they taken on a new persona when accepted in the gang. When i say accepted, it;s because one of the boys had to beat up not only his friend, but  a stranger too just to be part of the group. We knew he was out of his comfort zone primarily because of his hesitant emotional nature. Later we see he accidentally murders a teen girl which happend to be one of the most dangerous mans younger sister. It results in him dying at the age of 14/15, we could say it was best for him to die when he did to reduce the risk of him growing up in such a unconventional style, however this would not of happened is he wasn't part of a gang. His moulded identity killed him.

The music throughout foreshadows the individuals feelings and is coherent to their attitudes towards life. The rapping nature of the songs supports this gang culture i guess and a lot of rap is just an in depth song about ones feelings or experiences. The films contains a lot of swearing which would be completely unacceptable in todays society, yet to them, it was simply their vocabulary. We can assume they were uneducated and crime was the only thing they knew, the only way they could get by and they only way they could survive which again 4 times out of 5 results in death.  Trouble and manic experiences was the norm for the people in the film and what makes it more realistic, is that all of the actors where actually taken from an environment which is some what a like the one in the film so a lot of emotions and acting was in fact real, because we can assume some of the actors actually had to live that lifestyle.
